There is no substitute for experience and adequate preparation when it comes to passing the test and riding safely on the road; when selecting and booking a training course be realistic about your current level of riding ability. Remember if you fail the test because you weren’t ready for it, it will work out to be more expensive in the long run.
We offer split courses over weekdays and weekends to help with work commitments. Daily rates are also available if you need to spread the cost over a period of several weeks or even months.
A typical “Novice rider” course consists of a couple of hours of road craft theory on the morning of the first day, followed by spending the remainder of that day going over the basics of machine control and road riding routines and techniques. Days two, three and four would see you learning, practising and perfecting machine control and road craft. Throughout the course, you will be working towards getting ready to pass the DAS two-part practical test. The test will usually take place on the fifth day, first thing in the morning. (Please note that training for the theory test is not a part of our practical courses.)
The training days run from 09:00 to 15:00 and may involve accompanying another student to a test centre for their test.
When you pass your test on a 125 cc motorcycle you will be restricted to a motorcycle with a power output of no more than 11KW (15 BHP). If you are 19 or older you could do the ‘A2’ license which restricts you to 35 KW (47 BHP). If you’re 24 or older (or 21 or older with an ‘A2’ license obtained 2 years prior to the start of your course) you can do the ‘A’ license which will allow you to ride any size of bike.
Unlike a number of riding schools in the area, we arrange your motorcycle course to work around you. As such, you may find that you are riding with another student to and from a motorcycle test centre on their test day. We do try to minimise this situation but sometimes it is not possible to avoid. Our experience of this shows that it does not affect an individual students ability to receive all the training they need.
As we test at a good number of test centres (Mitcham, Tolworth, Farnborough-Aldershot, Burgess Hill, Tundbridge Wells and Erith) there is a strong possibility that you will be unfamiliar with these areas and as such have to be more focused on roads, road signs etc. which is a good thing!
Module 1 training is normally performed at our off-road training area. This involves manual handling, slalom and figures of eight, slow riding in a straight line, U-turn, stopping accurately, controlled stop as if in an emergency at 50 k.p.h. (31.6 m.p.h.), and a hazard avoidance again performed at 50 k.p.h.
Passing both the module 1 and module 2 awards you the motorcycle license for the category of motorcycle you have taken your test on (A1, A2 or A categories).
